“AA” Provincial Basketball Tournament

 

Boys and Girls

            Once again the Tournament City of B.C. will play host to the “AA” Boys’ and Girls’ High School Basketball Championships.  This will mark the 14th consecutive year the combined boys’ and girls’ tournament will be held in Kamloops.

The tournament committee has met and outlined preliminary plans for this year’s event.  Keep attuned to the web site for new information.  The main venues for the event will be the  Tournament Capital Center and the TRU gymnasium with semis and finals being played at TCC.

The tournament is sponsored by Fulton and Company, LN Group, Thompson Rivers University and the City of Kamloops.  In addition, a number of companies provide In-Kind support including Big Kahuna, Skyline Athletics and Overtime Athletics.  Our four tournament hotels, the Comfort Inn, the Thompson Hotel and Convention Center and the Maverick Inn also provide financial support.  As well, the tournament enjoys annual support from a number of Kamloops businesses who provide advertisement and other forms of support (see the annual tournament program).

The bare facts – Provincials - 2012

 

            Dates :            Wednesday, March 7th  – Saturday, March 10th, 2012

Schedule:        Days 1 and 2 will be played on two courts at TCC and 1 at TRU allowing later starts in the morning and earlier finishes at night.

                         

                       

Day 3 -          Boys’ and girls’ teams alternate play at venues.  See exceptions for Association meetings.  On Friday, all except semi-final games finished by 4:30 p.m. to allow teams to attend semi-final night.

 

                                    Day 4 -            Games alternate at all venues.  Girls finish last this year.

Other Relevant Material

 

1.         Banquet – includes opening ceremony.  All teams expected to attend.  The banquet is held at the Grand Hall at Thompson Rivers University.  All players will receive programs, lanyards, etc. at banquet.  Cost of $40 includes banquet, tournament t-shirt (only available to players and coaches), school clothing draw, and program.  All teams are asked to bring two draw items for a raffle at the banquet – school t-shirts, hats, etc.  Appropriate semi-formal dress required for the banquet.

 

2.         Program – all teams must have rosters and pictures into zone commissioner by Jan. 15th, 2012.  Teams who do not have their pictures and rosters in to their commissioners may not be in the program. There is also a financial penalty for Provincial teams who do not have their pictures in well before the tournament.   If you have noticed errors in previous programs, contact one of the tournament chairs by the end of January.   It would be huge advantage to our program committee if you would e-mail your roster and team picture to jbuckham@mail.ocis.net and to Marie Downing at maried@noranprinting.ca at the same time you submit it to your commissioner. 

 

3.         Entry fees – $250.00 – Teams not staying at a host hotel must pay surcharge of $350.00 for total of $600.00.  This is result of motion passed by both Associations to assist funding for the tournament.

 

4.                  Host hotels – three hotels (check the web-site) support the tournament in a major way and have been designated as host hotels. They are:

5.         Coaches’ Gifts – supplied by Thompson Rivers University

 

6.         Coaches’ Social/Coaches’ area at TCC – Supplied by Skyline Athletics

 

7.         All-star Gifts/Volunteer shirts – supplied by Big Kahuana

 

8.         Clothing – t-shirts, kangaroo tops, vests, etc., available during the tournament. 

 

9.         Spirit Award – annual award given to the school demonstrating sportsmanship, enthusiasm, fan support and banners.

 

10.       We will not have host/hostesses this year so no gift is needed. 

 

11.       Team Banners – each team can have up to two banners for the event – large 3X10 for TCC and small 3X6 for TRU.

 

12.       Player awards - game awards for outstanding performance- supplied by Skyline                          

  Athletic

  -  up to three Honorable Mention awards for both boys and girls

                          - ten All-Tournament awards for girls

- five First and five Second All-star awards for boys.

- all-star/all-tournament players receive trophies and gifts

- MVP’s receive trophies, gifts and scholarships

 

13.       Team awards - all teams receive commemorative plaque and picture.  Top nine teams in both draws receive permanent trophies for one year.

 

14.        Video – all games are taped and copies are available at a nominal cost.

 

15.     Warm-up Balls – bring your own.

 

16.     Registration packages will be sent to all zone reps in late January/early February.

17.       Once the tournament starts, the web site is kept up-to-date with results, statistics, pictures and daily reports.

 

18.      Closing ceremonies: all teams must participate following championship games.

 

19.      The Friday coaches’ meetings are an important part of the tournament.  All teams

           should have a representative at the meeting relating to your commission.  There

           will be no games scheduled in your draw during that period.

 

20.           There is a professional photographer on site for parents and players.

 

21.     The semi-finals and medal games will be carried on the web.
